Popular instant messaging platform, WhatsApp has been adding new features on regular basis. According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new feature to improve chat search.
The new feature is called ‘Advanced Search’. It is an improved version of the existing Chat Search feature. Using this feature, users can search messages including multimedia content also.
The feature would have an added ‘Media’ window, which would allow users to search for photos, GIFs, videos, documents, etc. The report stated that the feature would also allow users to check their search history. It can be deleted using the ‘Clear’ button in the updated version. There would also several filter option.
This feature was spotted in the iOS beta version to limited users and is still in the development stage. Although we have not been seen this feature in the Android beta version of the app, it is expected that WhatsApp would release this feature soon on Android as well.
The company is also expected to release another new feature called ‘Group Invitation’. This feature will let a user decide on whether he/she wants to join a group before being added to one. The feature would give control to users which groups they wish to join.
The feature would be located in the Privacy section of the app. Users can locate it in Settings> Account > Privacy > Groups. Then there would be an option named “Who can add me to a group”. There are three options mentioned there – Everyone, My contacts, Nobody. A user can choose any one option.
The company has already added some features this year like using Touch ID and Face ID to open WhatsApp, Picture-in-Picture (PiP), replying to a group chat privately etc.
The much awaited ‘dark mode’ feature is also on its way and we can expect more features in the coming days.
